Craft Process

Bags and purses

Unique bags and purses are created through a mix of woven grass and African fabrics. The Lutindzi grass is crafted into a long rope, using the traditional method of plaiting. After this, the rope is woven into desired shapes using the traditional weaving methods that have been passed from generation to generation and are a source of pride and identity to every Swazi woman.
Around the woven grass shape, the Tishweshwe (traditional African fabric) is sewn by hand. The whole process is done by a single woman from start to finish, and every piece must pass rigorous quality control at each stage guaranteeing you a durable fahionable item.
Most of this work is done by the women in their homes, allowing them to work flexibly whilst taking care of their families and dependants.
